Description
This is an Earth Day celebration event hosted by the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center (LSMVC). The LSMVC will provide chalk and participants may leave Earth Day messages on the sidewalk in front of the LSMVC.
Minnesota Sea Grant (MNSG), along with other local organizations, will host an activity table. The activity is a short, hands-on matching game; six raw materials that are shipped throughout the Great Lakes (iron ore, salt, limestone, grain, coal, and sand/gravel) are matched with categories of their finished products. Participants will learn what each raw material is, where it is shipped to and from, the goods that the raw materials are made into, and the ways in which those finished products can affect our everyday lives.
MNSG staff will also provide information about the Great Lakes maritime transportation system, and a three-panel, table-top display about ship- and port-based job opportunities.
