Registration:

Registration is required to attend this event. This event is part of the 2022 National Marine Educators Association Conference that will take place July 9 - July 13, 2022, based at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.

Description:

Register for the 2022 National Marine Educators Association Conference and attend the July 13 session to play Minnesota Sea Grant's new Coast Model of the Classroom Version of the Watershed Game (WSG) and offer feedback on pilot classroom extension materials. The WSG is an interactive, educational tool that helps individuals understand the connection between land use and water quality.

The new Coast Model includes typical coastal land uses, integrates nitrogen, phosphorus and sediment pollution and adds the element of community resilience to flooding. Players work in land use teams to reduce pollution and to increase their community’s resilience to flooding by playing tool cards, a gamified version of best management practices. As play progresses, teams discover the need for working together across land uses to meet a Clean Water goal and become more resilient to flooding.
